Beacon's Partners
James S. McLeod-Warrick, is a founding partner of Beacon Technology Partners LLC. Throughout his 25 years of experience at Beacon, Reed Business Information, The Christian Science Monitor, and McLeod-Warrick Research, he has developed considerable expertise in application of various quantitative and qualitative market research techniques to help leading technology companies better understand the needs of their customers and prospects. An experienced focus group moderator, Mr. McLeod-Warrick has conducted over 1,000 focus group sessions during his career.
While at Cahners Publishing, Mr. McLeod-Warrick developed "The Mind of the Engineer," the industry's first and only psychographic analysis of the design engineering community in the electronics industry. He has also developed a proprietary Web site survey-and-comparison methodology called Netrics which allows companies to compare the attractiveness and utility of their Web site to those of their competitors.
In collaboration with fellow BTP founder Steve Leibson, Mr. McLeod-Warrick has introduced several new analytical techniques to studying customer/supplier interactions and brand choice modeling in the EOEM. Such techniques include large scale conjoint or "trade off" analysis as well as more traditional multivariate segmentation methods and qualitative research approaches. Mr. McLeod-Warrick is responsible for designing the survey methods used for various EOEM brand studies, including the Customer Needs and the Industry Challenges initiatives, industry-wide brand studies (such as the annual EE Times EDA study or Distributor Preference study), performed in partnership with TechInsights (formerly CMP's Electronics Group).
Prior to his experience at Beacon, Jim was a principal at McLeod-Warrick Research. From 1992 to 1995, he served as the Director of Research at Cahners Publishing Company. Prior to that, he served as the Research Director at the Christian Science Monitor. He previously worked as a consultant to a wide variety of media companies including Knight-Ridder and Scripps-Howard.
Julie Woznac, Research Director, has been a member of the Beacon Technology Partners team since 2005. She has worked in market research for over 9 years and brings a broad range of professional experience.
Before joining Beacon, Julie was employed by Perseus Development Corporation. During her four year tenure, she managed survey marketing research projects for CVS Pharmacy, Coca-Cola, Best Buy and IEEE, just to name a few. She greatly expanded her skills in project management, customer service and survey programming. In addition, she was promoted to manage the Perseus Research Services department overseeing all internal project work. This role allowed her great involvement in sales calls, product enhancement meetings as well as custom development work.
Prior to Perseus, Julie worked for Solucient (formally HCIA) as a Business Systems Analyst writing software specification for the health care industry. These specification documents were crucial to the success of new product development, custom features and product enhancements. Due to her knowledge in this area, Julie was quickly promoted to manage the internal Data Management Center (DMC). The DMC employed 10 representatives whom were responsible for cleaning, scanning, translating, tracking and coding survey data. This position taught great management skills, including proposal / statement of work writing, pricing and budgeting.
Julie started her career working for Electronic Data Systems (EDS) in the cellular billing division. During her 6 years of employment she learned key skills in cellular billing management, customer service and product development. Most of her time was spent meeting with external clients to observe their use of the product and help determine the product enhancements that would best suit their everyday needs. She honed her skills in one particular area of the product and was labeled as the “Collections SME (Subject Matter Expert)”. Additionally, she was a key player for internal initiatives as well, such as GUI interface design, data transition mapping and the Y2K initiative.
Bridget Bly, Director of Advanced Statistical Analysis, received a Ph.D. from Stanford University in research psychology with an emphasis on experimental design and statistical analysis. She has worked for the past 12 years in market research and has extensive experience designing, analyzing, and reporting a wide range of empirical studies. Her recent clients have included Boston Scientific, Texas Instruments, Johnson & Johnson, Intel, Tropicana, Aflac, GE Capital, and Conde Nast. She has developed a number of proprietary statistical metrics for clients and has experience in business-to-business, consumer, and government-funded scientific research.
Return to topCara Castaner, Research Analyst, joined Beacon Technology Partners in 2008 and is fairly new to the market research world. She was previously employed by The Mathworks, a global provider of software for technical computing, where she was an individual contributor on a small team of developers that tested tools that measured release compatibility and desktop performance. At The Mathworks, she used MATLAB as a web server to generate web content including HTML,Javascript, and Flash input as well as to generate images characterizing layout of virtual memory use.
Prior to being employed by The Mathworks, she had administrative roles for MAP Internet, Inc. and Politzer and Haney. Cara also worked at Philips where she was involved in converting a database into SAP format.
Cara studied psychology at Clark University where she was involved in research projects involving language acquisition and she is currently studying web design at the University of Massachusetts.
